Kalymnos stands out in the new list of the world's ten most exciting climbing destinations in the summer months, according to the international travel website The Travel.
The island is second on the recommended list with the editors of the popular site stating that the hidden gem of the Aegean has managed to maintain its original colour without being affected by mass tourism, while at the same time being the shared secret of thousands of climbers from all over the world who will take refuge on the island exploring climbing routes of different difficulties.
The rest of the list is occupied by Sardinia, Yosemite National Park, Cote d' Azur, Mount Arapiles in Australia, Lander Wyoming in the USA, Squamish in Canada, Norway 's Flatanger, Rock Lands in South Africa and the Dolomites.
"Our choice to form climbing fields in Kalymnos gave impetus and a new identity to the destination. Climbing tourism contributes significantly to the expansion of the tourist season," stressed the Mayor of Kalymnia, Dimitris Diakomichalis.
This year in particular, the flows of climbers have started since the beginning of March , while they are expected to continue at an unabated pace throughout October," he added.
