Thirty-nine refugees are stuck on Greek islet according to a foreign NGO.

"SOS in the Evros region. 39 people are stuck on an islet on Greek territory near Pythion. There are several sick people among them. They are urgently calling for help and want to apply for asylum in Greece. We informed Hellenic Police, as well as Frontex. Rescue them now!" Alarm Phone tweeted.

The Alarm-Phone-Initiative (also known as: Watch The Med Alarm Phone Project) has operated since 8 October 2014 by volunteers from Europe, Tunisia and Morocco, which is committed to the sea rescue of refugees and pushing them into European countries.

The 'Alarm-Phone-Initiative' website provides a web resource to help refugees in need of rescue at sea, while the 'Watch The Med' website monitors and summarises events involving refugees in the Mediterranean.
