The largest inner city tunnel in Greece is coming

tunnel greece

Some of the key extensions in Greece that have already been decided include Kymi Avenue, which is expected to significantly improve traffic in Athens. The extension will include a large tunnel, which will be the largest within a city in the Mediterranean country.

The new extension will have a total length of 3.5 km, of which 2.5 km will be the tunnel, while the remaining part will be an extension of Attica Road, News Auto reported.

In addition, the new exit to the National Highway at the Kalyftaki junction will significantly improve traffic in the area. The tender of the project is expected soon and the completion of the project is expected by 2027.

The extension of Kymi Avenue will start from the junction of the same name on Attica Odos and will end, after approximately 3.8 kilometres, at the Kalyftakis junction of the national road in Kato Kifissia.

This will create an alternative route and help reduce traffic on the busy Attiki Odos, especially at the Metamorfosi junction.

The project will include a 1.25km underground tunnel and a 1.15km cut and cover tunnel. The last section of the route (1 km) will be flat road construction and will include an uneven interchange at the existing industrial park in the Lykovrysi area.

Western Regional Ymitto – L. Vouliagmeni

A particularly important project will be the development of the urban tunnel of Ilioupoli, approximately 3 km long with three lanes per traffic stream. This project will connect the point at the Sakketa camp with Vouliagmenis Avenue, creating a new highway.

It is expected to significantly improve the road network and transportation in the area, as the opening of the tunnel will reduce the time - from Katehaki Avenue to Vouliagmenis Avenue - from 30 minutes to about 10 minutes. The project is expected to be completed in a relatively short period of time.

Lavrio and Rafina

There are proposals for infrastructure projects in Attica, worth more than 200 million euros excluding VAT, submitted by private companies.

Among them, is included the continuation of the highway to the port of Rafina - bypassing L. Marathonos - and the widening of the existing road from Markopoulos to the port of Lavrio.

The above are some of the main projects that the residents of Athens are anxiously awaiting, since several infrastructure improvement projects will be carried out at the same time.

Political will to exist after the elections and for the final signatures to be signed to start the projects immediately, so that in four years we can enjoy their benefits...
