The war museum of Chalkida was inaugurated on Saturday, in the presence of the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (GEETHA) Konstantinos Floros, and former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.
The specific museum was founded within the Infantry School at the initiative of the President and the Members of the Board of Directors of the War Museum of Athens and is its Annex.
During his short greeting, the Head of the Greek National Greek Orthodox Church expressed his special emotion that he was in Chalkida, which is his birthplace.
He mentioned the importance of the new Annex of the War Museum of Athens as it will be another safe haven of precious historical memory and a real jewel for the wider region.
He also mentioned the importance of War Museums, and pointed out that this does not lie simply in the exhibition of objects of great historical value, but is connected with the mental revival of the most shocking moments of the Nation, as well as the sacrifices and struggles of our ancestors, keeping our debt to those who shed their blood for the Freedom and independence of Greece, exuding freedom, competitive spirit and a vision of dignity.
Addressing the President and the members of the Board of Directors of the War Museum, praised their work and congratulated them on the successful actions they have carried out, with which they promote the history of the Armed Forces.
He made a special mention to the President of the War Museum, Mr. Anastasios Liasco, for the initiatives he undertook for the completion of the War Museum of Chalkida, but also for the kind offer of all the exhibits and relics from his personal collection.
Concluding his greeting, the Head of GEETHA thanked the Regional Governor of Central Greece Mr. Fanis Spanos and the Mayor of Chalkida Mrs. Eleni Vaka for their important contribution, as well as all those who worked and offered tirelessly for the completion of the War Museum of Chalkida.
This was followed by a tour of the Museum where the guests had the opportunity to be guided through its unique exhibits.
