Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias expressed his optimism for tourism in Greece ahead of the summer season.

In speaking to AMNA, he said that "we broke decades-old stereotypes and taboos and innovated where necessary."

Referring to the upcoming elections, he underlined that the New Democracy deserves a second government term to continue its reform work, "always with a social sign, always oriented towards people and their needs."

Kikilias also spoke about the strategy he developed in tourism, which brought 17.6 billion in revenues in 2022 and had as its main axes the openings in new markets, the beneficial agreements with strong players in tourism, the promotion of new destinations, the 12-month campaigns of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) and the promotion of the city-break resulting in the extension of the tourist season especially in Athens which is now a 12-month tourist destination.

The minister estimated that tourism would perform well in 2023 and exceed the corresponding last year by 10%-20% after agreements for additional flights and also due to the opening of the markets of China and Australia.
