Los Angeles Greek Film Festival Returns June 3-11
The festival's full lineup was announced last week and includes screenings of feature-length films, documentaries and short films alongside events, workshops, awards, and a masterclass.
On June 11, LAGFF’s Orpheus Awards will name this year’s Best Feature, Documentary, Short, Animation Film, and Best Direction and Performance. Audience Choice Orpheus Awards will also be presented in each category.
The Awards Ceremony and Reception will be held at the Pacific Design Center.
Virtual screenings will be available on-demand for online streaming on the Festival’s website from June 12-18.
Novelist, screenwriter, film and television producer George Pelecanos will receive the 2023 Honorary Orpheus Award at the Festival’s Opening Night Ceremony on June 3 in the James Bridges Theater, organised in collaboration with the UCLA Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center for the Study of Hellenic Culture.
The following day, the Greek-American master will present a masterclass hosted by Los Angeles City College to benefit aspiring filmmakers and film students.
Pelecanos has authored twenty-one novels set in and around Washington, D.C., and was a producer and writer on the HBO series The Wire, Treme, and The Pacific, and co-creator and showrunner of HBO’s The Deuce and We Own This City. He has been honoured with numerous international writing awards in his career.
Previous editions of LAGFF have honoured more Greek-American major contributors to the film industry, such as Jim Gianopulos, Alexander Payne, Phedon Papamichael, George Chakiris, Valory Massalas, and Gena Rowlands.
