“The Choir will be performing some of the best-known songs from the Golden Age of Greek Cinema, along with targeted movie scenes featuring such famous names as Aliki Vougiouklaki, Dimitri Horn, Sophia Loren, Tolis Voskopoulos, Tzeni Karezi, Melina Mercouri,” said James Tsolakis, President of the Choir.
The concert, scheduled for Sunday, 18 June, in Sydney, will also feature a compilation of original movie clips crafted by award-winning director Eirini Alligiannis, transporting the audience to the era that played a pivotal role in the Greek cinematic world.
“The idea of this concert bears a resemblance to the era of silent film screenings, where in the realm of silence, it was music that spoke in the theatre,” said Leon Victogiannis, the Choir’s music director.
“Melodies and harmonies become the poets, expressing the profound depths of the human condition. This is the first time this has been attempted in Australia, so we are very excited about this concert.”
The Australian Hellenic Choir is a Sydney-based multilingual choir led by baritone and conductor Leon Vitogiannis, a Pacific Opera 2023 Young Artist scholarship recipient.
The choir runs as a non-profit and is open to new members.
Golden Age of Greek Cinema Movie Hit Songs will occur at the Ritz Cinema in Randwick, Sydney, on Sunday, 18 June, 4:30 – 6:30 pm AEST.
