German man killed after falling from police station window in Athens

A 55-year-old German man died in the early hours of Sunday morning after jumping out of a second-storey window in the Omonia Police Station in Athens and suffering serious head injuries.

According to the Hellenic Police, a police patrol was called out before midnight on Saturday to pick up a drunken man from a car park in Omonia. Police found the 55-year-old at the scene and took him to the Omonia Police Station in protective custody.

While at the police station, police sources said, the man jumped out of a window and suffered serious head injuries. He was rushed to Erythros Stavros hospital in an ambulance, still alive, but died shortly after his arrival.

An inquiry into the incident is being carried out by the Omonia Security Police Department.
