Greek Authorities Arrest Five Police Officers for Alleged Smuggling Collaboration: Latest Updates on Migrant Border Crossing Case

On Monday, Greek authorities announced the apprehension of five police officers from a specialized border guard unit. They are suspected of collaborating with smugglers to assist migrants in crossing into Greece from Turkey, according to official sources.

As per a police statement, these five individuals are believed to have facilitated the illegal entry of approximately 100 individuals since late October. They employed boats to transport migrants across the Evros River, which forms the northeastern land border between Greece and Turkey.

During the arrest operation conducted in the border town of Didymoteicho on Monday, the police seized around 26,000 euros ($28,000) in cash and almost 60 mobile phones. The action followed an investigation carried out by the police internal affairs division.
