A tragic incident involving a migrant speedboat has claimed the lives of four women and one man.
On Tuesday, A coast guard said that divers found the bodies of four women and a man at a depth of 30 meters (100 feet) inside the sunken speedboat that had departed from Turkey.
Their nationalities weren’t made public.
The coast guard patrol vessel successfully retrieved the victims' remains, which were then transported to Kalafati Bay and subsequently taken to a local health centre for further procedures.
Additionally, on the island of Antiparos, the lifeless body of an 18-year-old woman, known to have been aboard the same ill-fated vessel, was discovered on a rocky shore. This identification was made by two survivors who had managed to escape the shipwreck.
With this latest development, the confirmed death toll from the tragic accident now stands at nine individuals: seven women and two men.
According to the accounts provided by the two survivors, who were rescued by Greek authorities, the speedboat carried a total of 17 people, including several women and a seven-year-old girl.
Efforts by the coast guard to locate the remaining missing passengers are ongoing as they continue their search and rescue operation. [AMNA]
