Summer is coming and with it the appetite for swimming in the sea increases. Some, however, want to become one with the sea, which is why they choose to enter it without any clothes at all. Nudist beaches are places that you either love to go to, or you don't enjoy it so much.

This is also the reason why there are beaches where bathing suits are prohibited. The rules are strict and the only necessary accessory to enter them is sunscreen. Forget bikinis, one-pieces or shorts and run to these beaches to feel freer than ever.

In fact, CNN announced the 10 best beaches for nudists. Among them, we also find a fairly close selection. The Red Beach or Red Sand in Matala, Crete is one of the most picturesque and secluded beaches in the wider area.

Check out our list of the 20 best nudist beaches:

Playa Naturista Chihuahua, Uruguay

Playa Naturista Chihuahua, Uruguay

Uruguay's best-known nudist beach is about a 30-minute drive from Punta del Este, overlooking Portezuelo Bay on the Atlantic coast.

Photogenic sand dunes and water temperatures reaching 25 degrees Celsius (77 F) and higher even in the southern hemisphere winter add to the beach's allure. After decades as an unofficial nudist escape, Chihuahua finally gained legal status in 2000.

Nida Nude Beach, Lithuania

Nida Nude Beach, Lithuania

The frozen Baltic Sea may not seem like the best place to swim naked. But this gorgeous beach on the long, sandy Kouroniki Coast offers one of Europe's most picturesque spots to let it all out.

With its wildflower-covered dunes (among the highest in Europe) and coastal forest, the beach was the focus of a 19th-century artists' colony that attracted many of the era's leading painters, poets and writers.

Little Palm Beach, Waiheke, New Zealand

Little Palm Beach, Waiheke, New Zealand

Technically, it is legal to be naked on any beach in New Zealand, as the country loves personal freedom. However, the country's nudists tend to congregate at well-known no-clothes spots, such as Little Palm Beach on Waiheke Island.

To get to the secluded beach it takes 40-60 minutes by ferry from Auckland, taxi or drive to the north coast of the island and then a short downhill hike.

Nugal Beach, Croatia

Framed by craggy cliffs and shaded by pine trees, this remote beach on the mainland across from the island of Brač is reached via a narrow path that looks more like it was made for goats than people looking for a shirtless Adriatic getaway.

Be sure to bring a thick towel or even a beach chair – as with many Croatian beaches, the surface is shingle, not sand.

Moshup Beach, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts

Moshup in Massachusetts is a long curving beach that wraps around a headland crowned by the historic Gay Head Lighthouse (built 1799).

Just below the ancient lighthouse, the clothing-optional section sits beneath rust-colored sandstone cliffs that were designated a National Natural Monument in 1966. Moshup is free to anyone who wants to take off their clothes, unlike with Lucy Vincent, the island's private nudist beach.

Black's Beach, La Jolla, California

Beneath the 100-foot cliffs of Torrey Pines, Blacks has been California's favorite place to tan for more than 50 years and was once the only legal nudist beach in the entire United States.

Lady Bay Beach, Sydney, Australia

Lady Bay Beach, Sydney, Australia

Although it sometimes seems that almost every beach in Australia is clothing optional, there are some official nudist beaches, such as Lady Bay. Perched right inside the South Head of Sydney Harbour, it's small and narrow, but incredibly secluded for such a large city.

Buhne 16, Sylt, Germany

The average water temperature on this North Sea island in the summer is a chilly 17 C. Typically, all beaches in Sylt, Germany are clothing optional, but Buhne 16 was the first and is still the premier location for naked sunbathing along the German coast.

Wreck Beach, Vancouver, Canada

Canada's Wreck Beach, billed as one of the world's longest nudist beaches at 7.8 kilometres long, is actually a series of sandy beaches, shingles and rocky outcrops that wrap around the edge of Point Grey.

Red Beach, Crete, Greece

The Red Beach of Crete is only 20 minutes away (by foot) from Matala. Along the route one comes across caves, some of which are inhabited in the summer. The beach is characterised by the dark brownish red color of the sand that surrounds the beach and its wonderful crystal clear waters
