Woman ‘raped’ in the sea while on holiday in Greece after ‘meeting a man online’

It has been claimed that a 20-year-old woman has been raped in the sea while on holiday in Greece.

The tourist says that an unnamed 23-year-old Albanian man attacked her after they went for a swim at a beach on the east coast of Rhodes. The woman claims she had been speaking to him online for two weeks before meeting him in person.

It has also been alleged that he attempted to rape the woman a second time after they returned to a hotel room. Police have since arrested the suspect in connection, but he has denied the charges.

According to the Mirror, the UK tourist told police she had met the suspect at her hotel room before they agreed to visit the beach via his motorbike. Vradini newspaper that he attacked her in the sea and then allegedly raped her.

The victim entered the beach and put on her clothes before begging the suspect to drive her back to her hotel room. But when they arrived at the hotel, he allegedly forced his way into the room, took off her clothes and tried to assault her again sexually.

The victim then left the hotel and reported the incident to Rhodes Police. Detectives launched a manhunt for the Albanian man, and he was found hours later and taken to the police station.

If convicted, the suspect faces up to 10 years in prison.
