Two EU members continue to block the new package of Russian sanctions.

Russia sanctions

On June 7, EU ambassadors failed to reach a political agreement on introducing the 11th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation; negotiations will continue next week, reported Politico.

It is noted that the main reason for the agreement’s failure is that Greece and Hungary still disagree with some of the companies that Ukraine has included in the list of war sponsors. Athens and Budapest want their companies removed from this list before approving the sanctions package.

Germany and France are concerned about the ban on circumventing sanctions because they fear it could damage diplomatic relations. The European Commission presented another version of the 11th package, but it did not lead to an agreement. EU ambassadors will discuss the proposal again at their meeting on June 14.
