Passengers to be stung with a new fee when travelling to Europe - and a list of countries that will require new permits

In an upcoming development, Non-Citizens planning to visit Europe the following year will encounter new requirements and fees before entering 30 countries.

Starting in 2024, approximately 1.4 billion individuals from over 60 countries, including Australia, will need to complete paperwork and pay a fee to be enrolled in the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS). The application process can be conveniently completed online or through a mobile app, streamlining the procedure for travellers. However, it is important to note that a fee of seven euros (equivalent to approximately AUD 11) will be required for the application.

Countries such as Italy, Greece, Spain, Sweden, and Croatia, among others, will mandate travellers to reapply for access to the continent every three years or upon passport expiration, ensuring their continued authorization. These measures aim to enhance security protocols and facilitate smoother entry processes for visitors while maintaining a balance between safety and convenience.

This implementation marks a significant shift in travel procedures, and Australians planning to explore the beauty of Europe should be prepared for these changes. By familiarizing themselves with the online application process and adhering to the fee requirement, travellers can ensure a seamless and enjoyable journey to their chosen European destinations.
