After two weeks, a Greek Orthodox priest, suspended for dressing girls as altar boys, returned to the church of Agios Nikolaos Rangavas in Plaka.

The parishioners received Father Alexandros Kariotoglou, with emotion, according to Ekklisia Online, while they strongly protested the sentence imposed on him.

Despite the rain, many people came to the church to watch the Divine Liturgy.

Who is Alexandros Kariotoglou's father

Alexandros Kariotoglou was born in Lake Evia in 1948 and comes from Samos. He graduated from the Pythagorean High School of Samos and studied theology at the Theological School of the University of Athens and Munster, Germany.

He specialised in the History of Religions and was awarded a doctorate by the Theological School of the University of Athens.

The priest taught in private and public education, for three years at St. Andrew's Theological School in Sydney, Australia, and for eight years at the Department of Education at the University of Thessaly. He was an advisor to the Archbishop of Athens, Mr. Ieronymos.

He retired from the position of Piraeus School Counselor.

The father has written 10 books of scientific and educational content, part of the collective book of the Theological Department for the Open University and a significant number of articles. For his book "Orthodoxy and Islam" he has been honoured with the 1st "Abdi İpekçi" prize.

A representative of the younger generation of theologians, he is considered to be trying to combine orthodox theology with a modern and empirical way of looking at life.

He has been married since 1973 to Angeliki Tzouvali-Kariotoglou and is the father of four children.
