A small magnitude 3.0 quake hits 47 km southwest of Kalamata, Greece early morning

Just 18 minutes ago, a 3.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Kalamata, Messenia, Peloponnese, Greece. The tremor was recorded early morning on Wednesday, June 21st, 2023, at 1:36 am local time, at a shallow depth 10 km below the surface.

The event was filed by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which also listed the quake at magnitude 3.0. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.0.
Towns or cities near the epicentre where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Methoni (pop. 1,200), located 8 km from the epicentre, Methoni (pop. 1,200) 8 km away, Pylos (pop. 2,300) 18 km away, and Koroni (pop. 1,600) 21 km away. In Vlachopoulo (pop. 1,400, 32 km away), Chora (pop. 3,500, 33 km away), Gargalianoi (pop. 6,300, 36 km away), Kalamata (pop. 54,100, 47 km away), and Sparta (pop. 16,200, 72 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
