Kos: "It was the smell..." - Volunteer describes how she found Anastasia's lifeless body

On Sunday afternoon, the volunteer who first spotted the lifeless body of the girl from Poland under a tree in the Alykes area of Kos spoke about the moment when the body of 27-year-old Anastasia-Patricia Rubinska, who met a tragic death, was found.

Speaking about how she found the body covered with branches so that it could not be easily noticed, Anna, who volunteered to take part in the operation to locate Anastasia, said that "in two movements, I picked up as many branches as I could and unfortunately we found the girl."

Continuing, she said that with a pole she dug into the soil from the rocks where the body of the 27-year-old Polish woman was lying.

"It was a smell, which smell became more and more intense. It was there that the adrenaline was at its peak. I was convinced it was there and I was at the point where I had to seek help," she said.

The next step, the volunteer explained to ERT, was to ask for help from another girl who arrived at the scene and together they removed all leaves and branches.

"I personally think that no thing on the planet deserves such treatment. Emotions vary in this situation. It's not our job, you know, like a homicide unit that mostly deals with such situations," concluded the volunteer about what she experienced on Sunday afternoon in Kos.

Anastasia was originally from Wroclaw but had been living on Kos for a month, where she worked in the restaurant of a five-star hotel.

According to reports, the Bangladeshi man admitted to having sex with the victim at his residence and to dropping her off at a spot later on.

Surveillance camera footage has failed to confirm the latter claim.

The 32-year-old Bangladeshi citizen, whose name is being withheld, has been taken into custody and charged with kidnapping.

In his house, officers found two knives, a yellow sweater with stains and blonde hair, and an airline ticket to Italy purchased after Anastasia's disappearance.

DNA found in the residence has been matched to the victim.

Anastasia had gone to a party on the island of Kos on June 12.

She had later called her Polish boyfriend to say she had drunk too much and had told him she would get a lift on a motorbike to go to meet him.

After Anastasia failed to arrive, the boyfriend, 28, reported her disappearance to the police.

A missing persons page on Facebook posted last week: "Anastasia was last seen on the island of Kos before 11pm.

"Most likely, she got on a motorcycle with a man from Bangladesh. He was only supposed to give her a ride to meet her boyfriend.

"The last location of Anastasia's phone showed a different place to where she had arranged to meet her partner from Poland."
