Mitsotakis meets Obama: "We discussed our shared values"

New Democracy president Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a chat with former US president Barack Obama, who is in Athens. According to Proto Thema, the meeting lasted 30 minutes at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.

In his post on Twitter, Kyriakos Mitsotakis described the discussion with him as a "true pleasure".

"A true pleasure to speak with Barack Obama in Athens. Our shared values, resonating perhaps a bit more here, the birthplace of democracy, were the common thread in our discussion on the very real challenges our societies and youth face. I look forward to welcoming him again soon," Mitsotakis wrote on Twitter.

The former US president returns this afternoon for the second time to the stage of the Stavros Niarchos Hall of the National Opera, participating in the SNF Nostos Conference in the presence of Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

During his presence, he will discuss ways to strengthen democracy and the importance of supporting the next generation of leaders together with the President of the SNF, Andreas Drakopoulos. The president of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, will also be present at the discussion.

Early Wednesday afternoon, Barack Obama was at the meeting of the "Obama Foundation Leaders" in a central hotel in Athens.

Before arriving in Athens, Barack Obama was vacationing with his family as guests of the Hanks couple in Antiparos. They also visited the Cantina restaurant in Sifnos, and for the first time.

According to Iefimerida, Barack Obama, together with his wife Michelle and their two daughters Malia and Sasha, and of course the couple Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, arrived by boat in Sifnos (half an hour away from Antiparos, where they live).

Once on the island, they visited the excellent and well-known Cantina restaurant, which is located on the beach in Kastro.

The Obama family and the Hanks couple arrived a little after 8pm, they were especially happy, laughing and approachable, people recognised them - as expected - and they responded and reciprocated in a friendly manner.

They ate in a quiet corner of the restaurant and left again for Antiparos after finishing their meal.
