Earlier, speaking at the Obama Foundation's event on Greece, Barack Obama said Greece is a small country which nevertheless always impresses him.

In the past, he said, Greece was a crossroads of cultures connecting the West with the East, a centre of culture as well as commerce. Greece, he stressed, has left an indelible mark on history and world culture.

Today, Barack Obama will participate in a discussion at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center with SNF President Andreas Dracopoulos as part of the SNF Nostos Conference, on ways to strengthen democracy and the importance of supporting the next generation of leaders.

The president of New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, will also attend the discussion.
