A turtle laid its eggs among sunbeds and umbrellas on Damnoni beach, south of Rethymno prefecture in Crete, between Preveli Monastery and Plakias.

According to the Facebook post of Stavros Violakis, the event was recorded on June 10 and as he notes, "the turtle was looking for a place to lay its eggs for 5 hours. He had no choice but to stand next to the umbrella."

At the scene, as he mentions, two people were found who carefully and without making any noise, let the turtle deposit her eggs in the sand. After covering them and leaving, they created a rough protective fence so that the incubation could occur without damaging them.

Concluding his post, Mr. Violakis notes: "The beach, like so many others, is suffocatingly full of umbrella seats. Let the authorities (ETAD in this case) be careful and look beyond their finances and noses. I will ask that the topic be republished, it will probably do some good. Thanks".
