With style and mood, and without being deterred by the heat, a 99-year-old went to the polls on Sunday in the 172nd electoral district of Volos at the 4th Gymnasium.
Talkative and cheerful, he told the judicial representative: "Take a photo of me; it might be the last time I vote."
In fact, according to Gegonota, he didn't want any help climbing the stairs and was constantly joking.
With nearly all ballots counted by 22:28 on Sunday, the second round of Greek elections established a clear victory for New Democracy, with 40.56% of the votes and 158 seats in the 300-seat Parliament.
The Greek Interior Ministry results were as follows:
- New Democracy (Mitsotakis), 40.55% and 158 seats
- SYRIZA (Tsipras), 17.84% and 47 seats
- PASOK-KINAL (Androulakis), 11.87% and 32 seats
- Communist Party (Koutsoubas), 7.67% and 20 seats
- Spartans (Stigas), 4.68% and 13 seats
- Greek Solution (Velopoulos), 4.45% and 12 seats
- Niki (Natsios), 3.70% and 10 seats
- Plefsi Eleftherias (Konstantopoulou), 3.17% and 8 seats
MeRA25 did not meet the 3% threshold for Parliament.
A total of 52.75% of registered voters cast a ballot, of which 1.11% were invalid votes.
