Tesla's plans to build a Gigafactory in the Spanish city of Valencia have reportedly been abandoned due to leaks that angered the company and disrupted negotiations.
Just a few weeks after the news broke about the possible deal with Valencia, it has now ceased to exist...
Spain has gone to great lengths to attract automakers, with Volkswagen planning a battery plant in the country, making it an attractive location for Tesla's next factory.
The breakdown in negotiations is said to result from a leak that revealed the possibility of the deal, angering the carmarker's executives .
While the leak is believed to have come from within Valencia's local government, the state's president, Ximo Puig, denies any involvement. Despite the leak, a member of the Valencian government confirmed that talks were well advanced.
The Valencia deal had the potential to be worth up to 4.5 billion euros and would create many jobs related to one of the world's leading electric vehicle manufacturers.
Even though the Valencia deal fell through, Tesla is still looking for a suitable location for its next factory.
France, following a meeting between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and French President Emmanuel Macron, is said to be among the top contenders. Italy, Canada and India are also being considered.
Musk recently stated that Tesla plans to announce the location of its next factory by the end of the year.
Maybe the new government should take a little more seriously the possibility of this huge investment - or even some part of it - coming to Greece?
