John Stamos: A Year Of Memoirs-His Own Memoir And Starring in A TV Series Adaptation Of Jessica Simpson's Memoir

Greek-American actor John Stamos, (best known for his roles in Full House, ER and General Hospital) is scheduled to release his memoir 'If You Would Have Told Me' in October 2023.

The candid memoir will be released by publishing house Henry Holt on October 24, 2023. Stamos’s long successful career ranges from his early appearances on General Hospital (which earned him a Daytime Emmy Nomination in 1983) to his years on Full House as Uncle Jesse (Jesse Katsopolis) to touring with the Beach Boys.

If you would have told a young John Stamos flipping burgers at his dad’s fast-food joint that one day he’d be a household name and that, at the height of his success, he’d be living alone, divorced, with no kids, high on a cocktail of forgetting, he might’ve asked, “You want fries with that?”.

John burst onto the scene in General Hospital, propelling him into the teen idol stratosphere, a place that’s often a point of no return. But Stamos beat the odds and over the past four decades has proved himself to be one of his generation’s most successful and beloved actors. Whether showing off his comedic chops on Full House or his dramatic skills on ER, pushing the boundaries on Broadway or living out his youthful dreams as an honorary Beach Boy, John has surprised everyone, most of all himself.

A universal story about friendship, love, loss, and the courage to embrace love once more, John Stamos’s memoir is filled with some of the most memorable names in Hollywood, both old and new. Funny, deeply poignant, and brutally honest, If You Would Have Told Me is a portrait of a boy who went from believing in Disney magic to a man who learns that we have to create our own magical moments in life.

John recently shared videos to his socials explaining the differences between writing his memoir and recording his vocals for the audio version of the book, which he explains he found far more exhausting, challenging and cathartic, than writing it. In relation to the audio portion he says, "I think my voice sounds very buttery" before giving his followers a sneak peek of footage in the studio booth reading excerpts from his memoir.

"If you would have told me that recording the audio portion of my book was going to be more exhausting, harder, more cathartic than actually wirting the book..."

Stamos will star as Butch Thorn, a divorced former singer-songwriter and alcoholic who is tasked along writing songs with Sadie (played by Katelyn Tarver), a mid-20's pop star, Sadie Sparrow.

The 'Open Book' docuseries, will expand on the memoir with never-before-seen personal footage shot over the past decade. It will explore the highs and  lows of Simpson’s life, including her singing career, her journey to sobriety, starting a family, the rise of creating a billion-dollar business, and finding her voice.

The docuseries will be produced by Tom Kapinos a writer and screenwriter who is of Greek decent and best known for his Showtime series 'Californication' and Fox series 'Lucifer'.

Jessica Simpson had taken to her social media to announce the news and shared her excitement to work with the cast and crew and made special mentions about being a super-fan of Kapinos' from his days of co-producing 'Dawson's Creek'. Of Stamos she wrote: "I am so grateful to work alongside a legend, but even more so, I am VERY ready to watch you break the mold as Butch Thorne, always makin us swoon!".
