4 colourful beaches in Greece that you MUST visit

On every beach, blue is the colour that monopolises interest, looks and fun. However, this does not seem to be the rule for some special beaches that break the monotony of the blue and, with intense, strange, original and rare colours, steal the impressions, remaining forever engraved in our summer memories.

Below are some of the most colourful Greek beaches that will be more than captivating when visited.

Mavra Volia, Chios

Although Santorini rightfully holds the first prize in black beaches, this does injustice to Chios, one of the northeastern Aegean's most special and unexplored islands.

With its medieval villages and internationally renowned product, mastic, Chios is an island that we must visit at least once in our lifetime. Of course, this applies all the more to the very special black beach of Chios, Mavra Volia.

This is a place where pitch-black pebbles, towering rocks and dark waters compose a different scenery that goes against the stereotypical image of the blue Greek summer, clearly proving that Chios still hides many surprises and is well worth a place on this year's travel bucket list.

Xi, Kefalonia

Whatever they write about Kefalonia, the colourful and bright Xi beach will always be at the top of the list. And the reason? The particular brick or orange colour (depending on your colour perception) that looks like someone purposely dumped a bucket full of paint on the sand giving it that warm hue.

Of course, the image of the beach becomes a hundred times more enchanting, when the summer sunset simply gilds the bright sand giving you the feeling that you are walking on a shining layer of gold.

Also, don't forget that the clay, which gives the unique colour of the beach, is beneficial for the body, giving you an additional reason to include the beach of Kefalonia in this summer's list.

Elafonisi, Chania

Rumours say that in order to make Skorpios the No. 1 private resort in the world, Onassis secretly brought pink sand from a river in Argentina and tried to create small pink beaches on the small rock island. After all, is there a more incredible combination than pink sand and blue waters?

Elafonisi in Chania seems to have the answer to the question and it is no coincidence that the pink sand with the small shells is one of the rarest beaches in Crete and, in general, in Greece.

In fact, research has shown that the so rare pink colour is due to the harmonious symbiosis of various marine microorganisms whose interaction creates this intoxicating colour that is even more impressive at sunset.

After all, it is no coincidence that Elafonisi of Chania is almost every year among the must-visit colourful beaches of the planet that you definitely have to visit.

Sarakiniko, Milos

A beach that according to some looks like a painting from afar, while to others it is a lunar alien landscape that has accidentally been found on Earth. While neither is true in any case, words are unnecessary for the pure white beach of Milos which is simply breathtaking.

The white cliffs remnants of intense volcanic activity on the island that have been sculpted after centuries of merciless waves have created this incomparably valuable landscape that deserves more than one visit.

In fact, during the presence of the Saracens in the Mediterranean, the beach was a base for the legendary Saracen pirates on the surrounding coasts of the area, thus acquiring its name, and rightfully so.
