NATO Summit: "Warm message from Mitsotakis ahead of the four-four meeting with Erdoğan," says Turkish media

Turkish media painted a positive atmosphere for today's meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.

It is the first meeting of the two leaders since March 2022, and the tension that followed between the two countries when the Turkish president swore not to speak to Mitsotakis again.

In today's reports, the Turkish media present yesterday's statements by the Greek prime minister that Athens and Ankara can move towards a positive agenda.

"Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis: Turkey and Greece can take positive steps" is the headline of the pro-government newspaper Yeni Şafak, which notes that this will be the first meeting between the two leaders after their recent re-election.

"Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis gave warm messages before today's meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Vilnius," commented an article in the Hürriyet newspaper, presenting the statements of the Greek Prime Minister shortly before the meeting with Erdoğan.

The publication emphasises that the Greek leader pointed out that the only differences with Turkey are: "the limits of the continental shelf and the Exclusive Economic Zone in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean.

The news portal Haber7 is also talking about a "warm message to Erdoğan", commenting that the the Greek prime minister described Sweden's accession - as the 32nd member - to the Atlantic Alliance as "very good news."

Turkish media also highlighted how he gave a warm message to Erdoğan, "with whom he will meet on Wednesday."

"Mitsotakis' message to Turkey. The ice can melt," reports the TGRT Haber network, emphasising the Prime Minister's statement from Vilnius that the two countries can take the first step towards resuming relations between them.

"Mitsotakis' message on Turkey-Greece relations," is the title of a Haber Global publication.

"Declaring that there are significant disagreements between Turkey and Greece, Mitsotakis noted that the problems can be resolved based on good neighbourly relations and within the framework of international law," commented the publication.

The meeting of the two leaders is scheduled for noon and according to the current data, the foreign ministers, Giorgos Gerapetritis and Hakan Fidan, and the two diplomatic advisers, Anna Maria Bura and Akif Çağatay Kılıç, will also participate.
