Heatwave Cleon returning in full force after Wednesday

The very high temperatures brought by heatwave 'Cleon' will be restricted to the west of the country until Wednesday before returning in full force from Thursday, when the northerly summer breeze in the Aegean known as "meltemi" starts to abate.

According to the latest forecast by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), temperatures will be lower and their intensity less severe for eastern parts of Greece for about three days, due to winds reaching up to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean.

Temperatures will start to climb again from Thursday, when the winds fall off, and reach a new peak affecting the entire country between Friday and Sunday, before the cooling winds start to blow once more next Monday.

The maximum temperatures this week will be as follows:

From Monday until Wednesday, temperatures will peak at 38-40C in western Greece and up to 41C in the northwest Peloponnese, but not exceed 35-38C in the north, possibly 39C in parts of Thrace, 37-39C in the east and 36-38C on the islands of the Aegean.

On Thursday, maximum temperatures will start to climb to between 40-42C and reach as high as 43C in some locations on the mainland, be at 39-41C on the Ionian islands and between 37-39C on the Aegean islands.

Between Friday and Sunday, the temperatures will climb even higher, with the maximum at 41-43C on the mainland, or even 44C in some locations.

Greece will start to get cooler again from next Monday, especially in the north, with temperatures dropping 2-3 degrees celsius.
