ATHENS: 35-year-old Bangladeshi man arrested for the murder of Cuban transgender woman

A 35-year-old man from Bangladesh, who was earlier brought in as a suspect in the murder of the 46-year-old transgender Anna Ivankova on July 10 in her apartment in an Athens neighbourhood, was arrested by the Greek police.

The body of the 46-year-old woman was found in a pool of blood, in a ground-floor apartment in the area of ​​Agios Panteleimon on Phylis and Magnisias Street, by the landlady who went to the apartment to collect the rent.

According to Proto Thema, the authorities allegedly have evidence that on the day of the murder, the 35-year-old had visited the apartment building where the victim lived in Phylis and had left it with wounds on various parts of his body.

From the investigation carried out at the crime scene, fingerprints of the Bangladeshi were found.

Indicative is the fact that Ivankova received 15 blows all over her body, while the police were shocked by the state in which her head was as it was almost deformed from the blows.

On 10 July, the victim was found dead in the apartment where he lived, with multiple wounds on the head, neck, back, left arm, abdomen and upper limbs. At the same time, the apartment presented an image of an extensive investigation, a previous struggle while a number of blood stains were observed.

This was followed by a combined observation and comparison of informational and technical evidence, which was collected by a special operational team from the scene of the crime and the wider area.

From the evaluation of the evidence as well as from the further analysis of pre-investigative and forensic data, obtained with the assistance of the Investigations Department of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the involvement of the 35-year-old in the case was determined.

Searches followed, in the context of which the 35-year-old was located in the center of Athens and brought to the Attica Security Directorate, where additional evidence was found in his possession linking him to the scene of the crime.

In a subsequent search carried out at his home, three mobile phones were found and confiscated.
