The second phase of the ongoing heatwave that began on Friday is gripping Greece tight on Saturday while temperatures are expected to rise even further on Sunday, according to the updated emergency weather report issued by the National Meteorological Service (EMY) on Saturday.
Temperatures were expected to climb to 43C in some parts of Greece on Saturday, while on Sunday they may even touch a sizzling 45C in eastern parts of the country.
After a brief reprieve on Monday, when temperatures are forecast to ease by 2-5C, a third surge of very high heat will hit the country from Tuesday, the National Meteorological Service said in its updated forecast for heatwave 'Cleon'.
