Scholz: Better bilateral relationship can be made feasible by Greek and Turkish leaders

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have the potential to render a better relationship between the two countries feasible, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz noted in a press briefing on Friday.

The German leader was making these remarks in reference to his separate meetings with Mitsotakis and Erdogan in the context of the NATO leaders' summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, earlier in the week.

"It is very important for us," he noted, "to contribute so that Turkey's relations with both Germany and the EU develop well," he underlined.

The same applies to Germany's relations with Greece, he clarified, as both countries are EU members, and "we both share common prospects and views, and this is why all my talks with the Greek prime minister are always friendly over the years, a fact which I believe is very important."

Scholz added that his government feels committed to ensuring that the relations of "those involved in the Aegean are good," he added.
