The Old Perithia, a cherished establishment known for serving exceptional traditional and locally-sourced cuisine, found itself in the path of the catastrophic fires that ravaged Palia Perithia, the oldest inhabited settlement in Corfu with historical roots dating back to the 14th century.
While the village had been mostly abandoned, it still housed a few renowned traditional restaurants, including The Old Perithia, wrote a post on Taste Atlas's social accounts.
As the fires escalated, an urgent evacuation became imperative, casting uncertainty and fear upon the fate of this historic restaurant and its cherished culinary heritage. The eatery had played a vital role in preserving Corfu's authentic dishes, safeguarding them from oblivion, and embodying a profound love for the region's rich traditions.
Our hearts went out to the owners, staff, and patrons of The Old Perithia and all the Greek communities grappling with these devastating fires. We fervently hoped for their safety and that they emerged unharmed from this nightmarish ordeal. May they have found strength and resilience during those trying times as we stood in solidarity with all those affected by this unfathomable tragedy.
