Residents and visitors have experienced difficulty since Sunday afternoon in the area of Aigio, where a large fire is ongoing in the Diakopto massif.
A monk revealed to his wife the efforts he is making to the monastery of Agios Nikolaos in Aigio.
"I'm still trying because everything is burning right now," the monk said according to Action24.
As he said, "I'm fine, I've hurt my hands, and my leg has burned a little." When asked if he was the one ringing the bell, he answered "Yes, I'm ringing it that I'm fine and that the monastery was saved".
Describing the situation he said that "the wood of the monastery is burning, the clock is burning", however he sent the message "I will not let the monastery burn".
According to his wife, the monk had previously saved the same monastery.
There were four active fire fronts in Banka, Aigio, on Monday morning, but the fire was stopped before it entered residential areas, while operations continue south from the massif of Diakoptos from Marousi to Katholiko. Three aircraft and a helicopter are working to extinguish the fire.
