In his debut game for the Greek national team, Thomas Walkup made a significant impact, scoring seven crucial points down the stretch to secure a 98-91 victory over Luka Doncic's Slovenia in the FIBA World Cup 2023 preparation.

Despite Doncic's impressive triple-double performance of 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists, his efforts were not enough to secure a win.

Walkup contributed 17 points and six assists in just 22 minutes of play, showcasing his skills on the court. However, it was his teammate Kostas Papanikolaou who led the team in scoring with 19 points and four rebounds.

Unfortunately, Greece played without star player Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is still recovering from knee surgery and is uncertain for the upcoming major basketball event.

Following their home loss to Greece, Slovenia is scheduled to face them again on August 4 in Athens. They will also compete against Montenegro, Spain, Team USA, and Japan in preparation for the World Cup.

In the FIBA Basketball World Cup, Slovenia will be in Group F in Okinawa, Japan, and will face Cape Verde, Georgia, and Venezuela.

Greece, on the other hand, has five preparation games remaining before the World Cup, including another match against Slovenia, as well as games against Serbia, Italy, Team USA, and Germany.

Led by coach Dimitris Itoudis, Greece will compete in the group stage in Manila, where they will face Jordan, Team USA, and New Zealand.

The top performers for Slovenia in the game were Luka Doncic with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists, followed by Jordan Morgan with 16 points, Vlatko Cancar and Klemen Prepelic with 13 points each, and Zoran Dragic with 12 points.

For Greece, Kostas Papanikolaou led the way with 19 points, followed by Thomas Walkup with 17 points and six assists, and Dinos Mitoglou and Michalis Lountzis with 13 points each.
