According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, a group of 49 migrants were rescued from a cargo ship located 109 nautical miles southwest of Pylos.

One of the individuals, a 21-year-old woman who suffered sunburns, was airlifted to Kalamata Hospital along with her companion.

Despite being in international waters, the cargo ship was within Greece’s search and rescue jurisdiction. The migrants initially reached out to Italian authorities, who subsequently alerted the Greek authorities.

After their rescue, the migrants were taken to Kalamata for identification, registration, and medical examinations. They will stay in a temporary facility until they can be transferred to a dedicated migrants facility.
