Tips to eating on a budget when vacationing in Greece

Many of you are already on vacation, while others are mentally on an island; even if you physically go to the office daily - whether you have arranged with a group of friends or are going to a destination as a family, you are already worried about the expenses you will incur and are planning a budget.

You may have already received or expected your leave allowance in the next few days, but more is needed to cover your expenses. We take out the ferry, petrol and accommodation costs and focus only on the food.

How will you reduce your expenses without starving or depriving yourself of the quality of at least some of your favourite meals?

Here are some tips by Olive Magazine that will help you...

Of course, it all depends on where you will be vacationing, what kind of recommendations and what needs your group has. A family with children wants a different design than a group of students, young couples or retirees.

With proper planning, however, and avoiding unnecessary expenses, we can all keep the budget at a level without having to take out a holiday loan or spoil all our savings in the summer and return with empty pockets!

Cook!

There are better things to cook on vacation, but it might work for you, especially if you have a family to feed! And in cooking, though, expect something other than the luxury you have at home. If it's to buy all the ingredients, spices and sauces you have in your cupboard, it might be for someone else!

You mean you choose simple recipes that can make eggs, such as omelettes, baked potatoes, pasta, and salads.

Eat out once a day

Even if there is no possibility of cooking either because we don't want to or because the room we chose does not have all the comfort, there are solutions such as a toast, a fruit, or a snack during the day and have a main meal in the late afternoon, so that it is neither heavy or fills you with calories before bed.

Fruits

On vacation, we want to have a good time, relax, rest and not be hungry! Fruits are not only delicious but also nutritious and fill us up simultaneously!

So we can fill our fridge with seasonal fruits, such as peaches, apricots, grapes and cherries - which we can take with us on our walks - or watermelon and melon, which are more difficult to transport but are very easy to put into fruit salads.

Nuts

Nuts are also nutritious, healthy, and the perfect snack for adults and children. They are easy to transport, do not take up much space, and withstand high temperatures. However, beware: eat them in moderation as they are particularly loaded with calories!

A good breakfast

The excellent day from the morning seems! A good breakfast will keep us full for several hours to protect us from snacking and unhealthy snacks sold on the beaches, such as chips or packaged ice cream.

For breakfast to be balanced, it must have protein, fibre, carbohydrates, and good fats. Moderate the sugar at the start of the day and prefer solutions such as porridge with nuts, superfoods and fruit or yogurt with fruit and nuts.

The egg and the avocado are correct and healthy solutions, as is the spread of nuts, honey, or tahini (pay attention to the quantities or preparations with added sugar).

Of course, there are better solutions than these, but you can adapt them to your needs, depending on your mood! And also, you can invest in your breakfast and dinner.

Skewers and street food

We didn't say raise your cholesterol to God on your vacation days. Even at hand, the most straightforward solution is more economical than a good restaurant.

Depending on your available budget, you can divide your days between taverns, street food and restaurants. Good planning here - in advance - helps the situation, so find out the best-recommended pita gyros shops in the place you are visiting.

Check the menu before sitting

There are two ways to do this: either we check in advance via the Internet - many shops also have the catalogue online - or we read it before sitting down. If we wait for the bill to see what we will pay, it is too late…

Taverns instead of restaurants

A good quality tavern is the best solution to get to know better about the gastronomy of the place you visit for vacation. You don't need to choose an expensive restaurant! There are many taverns - gems all over Greece. You can do some research before you find yourself at a destination.
