Stefanos Tsitsipas Fights Back to Claim Victory in Los Cabos Open Quarterfinals

Stefanos Tsitsipas faced a challenging match in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Los Cabos Open against Nicolas Jarry, but emerged triumphant.

Before the ATP 250 tournament in Mexico, Tsitsipas, the top seed, felt confident and had no pressure to prove himself to anyone. As the highest-ranked player, he received a bye in the first round and started his campaign in the second round.

In the second round, Tsitsipas went up against John Isner, a formidable opponent known for his powerful serve. However, Isner had not been performing at his best this season, allowing Tsitsipas to comfortably secure the victory and advance to the quarterfinals where he would face Nicolas Jarry.

Jarry, a wildcard entry, displayed an impressive level of play and seemed determined to make a statement. Both players showcased their attacking styles, hitting winners left and right. Tsitsipas recorded 11 winners in the first set, while Jarry displayed an incredible 19 winners. The set was tightly contested and eventually reached a tense tiebreak. After several opportunities for both players, Jarry managed to take the tiebreak 7-6(6).

Undeterred by his loss in the first set, Tsitsipas regrouped and focused on the task at hand in the second set. Once again, Jarry continued his aggressive play, hitting an impressive 20 winners compared to Tsitsipas' 11. The set, too, went into a tiebreak, which Tsitsipas claimed with a score of 7-6(4), leveling the match.

In the third and deciding set, Tsitsipas showed his dominance. Inspired by his earlier tiebreak win, he raised his level of play and broke Jarry's serve early in the set. Maintaining his lead, Tsitsipas closed out the set with a convincing 6-2 victory.

Completing a remarkable comeback, Tsitsipas secured a hard-fought win with a final scoreline of 6-7(6), 7-6(4), 6-2. He now awaits the outcome of the match between the fourth-seeded Borna Coric and the eighth-seeded Ilya Ivashka for his next opponent.
