At 72, the great singer Lizeta Nikolaou passed away today at 8:15 am.

The news was announced by the singer Eleni Dimou, writing on Facebook: “What a shame. What a shame. Have a good trip, Lizette, as I always told you.”

It is recalled that the performer, a few days ago, had a severe accident in a cafeteria after falling down a ladder. Lizeta Nikolaou was intubated in the Intensive Care Unit in a private clinic in Piraeus.

She had lost her balance and slipped on the stairs when she wanted to go to the store’s toilet. The singer was immediately taken by ambulance to the hospital, as he suffered a severe head injury.

Who was Lizeta Nikolaou?

Lizeta Nikolaou (Elisavet Katikaridou) was born in 1951 in Thessaloniki (Kalamaria) to Pontian refugee parents. She has been involved in singing since her school days.

After a proposal was made to her, she passed an audition to do a second voice in “Deilina”, where in the 1970s, the cream of the Greek pentagram appeared (Dionysiou, Parios, Dalaras, Alexiou, etc.).

She remained in “Deilina” for many seasons, where she now emerged as the permanent partner of Stratos Dionysios.

The discography was presented for the first time in 1973 in compositions by Takis Soukas with lyrics by Iraklis Papasideris.

She performed songs by Mikis Theodorakis and appeared with great creators and performers, such as Yiannis Markopoulos (“Thessalikos circle” et al.), Vassilis Tsitsanis, Charalambos Garganourakis, Vicky Moscholiou and Dimitra Galani.

In 1977, her first personal album was released entitled “Lizeta’s Smile”, and songs signed by some of the greatest Greek composers, such as Dimos Moutsis, Yiannis Spanos, Vassilis Tsitsanis and Yiannis Markopoulos.

As she had said, among other things, on a TV show a few years ago, “I left my career to its fate; I have no repulsors. After the ‘Thessalian Circle’ and the whole collaboration with G. Markopoulos, big clubs started asking me – it was like a fairytale. I tell this to girls and boys, and they tell me, ‘But this is a fairytale you’re telling us!’ Why do they struggle so much, and they came so easily to me!”

From 1978 to 1983, she married Giorgos Lianis, with whom she had a son, Alexandros.
