Greek Olympic Shooter Anna Korakaki Wins Silver at 2023 ISSF World Championships

Greek Olympic shooter Anna Korakaki achieved another impressive feat at the 2023 ISSF World Championships held in Baku, Azerbaijan. Competing in the women's 10m air pistol event, Korakaki secured the silver medal, narrowly missing out on the gold to China's Jiang Ranxin.

Throughout the competition, Korakaki faced a challenging day, acknowledging the difficulties that arise in world championships. However, her skill and determination propelled her to victory as she clinched an impressive 238.3 points. Unfortunately, Jiang's outstanding performance edged her ahead with 239.8 points, securing the gold medal.

The tense competition between Korakaki and Jiang reached its peak during the final shots. With a mere 0.6 points separating the two athletes, the Greek shooter showcased her proficiency. However, an unfortunate low-scoring shot of 8.9 at the start of the final round forced Korakaki to settle for silver.

Despite the outcome, Korakaki expressed gratitude and happiness over her achievement. She highlighted the significance of every competition, emphasizing that this was her fourth consecutive medal at a world championship event. The Greek champion also dedicated her silver medal to her brother, who was unable to attend the event due to a significant health issue.

Korakaki's successes extend beyond the 2023 ISSF World Championships. In the 2016 Summer Olympics, she made history as the first Greek woman to be a multi-Olympic medalist at the same Olympiad. She won a gold medal in the 25m pistol shot event and a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol shooting event.

Since the Rio Olympics, Korakaki has continued to achieve remarkable results in various competitions. She has earned multiple medals at the World Championships, European Championships, European Games, and Mediterranean Games. In a previous shooting event, she even became the first woman to be the originating Olympic athlete torchbearer of an Olympic torch relay.

Notably, just a few months ago, Korakaki claimed the gold medal in the 10m air pistol event at the Shooting World Cup, also held in Baku, Azerbaijan. She further solidified her status as a shooting star by winning the gold medal in the 25m pistol event at the European Games in Krakow.

Anna Korakaki's remarkable talent and dedication to her sport have made her a force to be reckoned with in the world of Olympic shooting. Her numerous achievements and consistent success showcase her exceptional skills and cement her position among Greece's most accomplished athletes.
