Over 300 Migrants Arrive on Greek Islands Near Turkish Coast in Recent Days

In a series of separate incidents reported by the coast guard, more than 300 migrants have arrived on Greek islands near the Turkish coast over the past three days.

On Thursday, the Coast Guard revealed that a total of 107 individuals were found on the islands of Samos, Mykonos, and the small island of Ro the previous day. This followed another 109 arrivals on Wednesday, as announced by the coast guard on the same day, on Lesbos, Rhodes, Samos, and Santorini. Additionally, 118 migrants arrived on Tuesday on the islands of Ro, Rhodes, and Lesbos.

The majority of these migrants were intercepted near the coastline by the Hellenic Coast Guard patrol boats, having been transported by dinghies or other vessels provided by smugglers. Subsequently, all migrants were transported to migrant reception centres.

Greece has been a primary entry point into the European Union for individuals seeking refuge from conflict or poverty in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, with the hope of improving their lives in Europe. So far this year, more than 14,000 migrants have entered Greece.
