On Saturday, there is a very high (category 4) fire risk for four Greek regions of Attica.

Specifically, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection at the climate crisis and civil protection ministry, the risk refers to the regions of Attica, Sterea Ellada (Viotia, Evia, including the island of Skyros), the region of eastern Macedonia and Thrace (Evros) and the region of northern Aegean (the islands of Chios, Samos, Ikaria and Lesvos).

The ministry advises people to be exceptionally careful and avoid any activity in the open that could accidentally cause a fire, such as burning vegetation, using machinery that creates sparks, lighting barbecues, or throwing away lit cigarettes. It also reminds the public to alert the fire brigade via the emergency number 199 in the case of fire.

Meanwhile, the Fire Brigade continued to battle the blaze in Evros for the 14th consecutive day on Friday as all night they tried to save the town of Soufli and intercept the course of the fire.

As the Fire Brigade knew it, the fire is now burning between Yiannouli and Kornofolias, and the danger for Soufli and Protoklissi appears to have been avoided.

Last night, a message was sent by the emergency number 112 to the residents of Soufli to be on alert and to follow the authority's instructions as the flames approached the town.

One hundred twenty-nine fire engines with a 586-member crew, 16 teams of firefighters on foot assisted by six firefighting aircraft and two helicopters are operating on Friday in the area.

A total of 32 new forest fires broke out on Thursday while the firefighting forces were battling the blaze in 68 fires throughout the country.

Firefighting forces continue to operate in Parnitha, mostly near Fili Fortress.

It is noted that the European Civil Protection Mechanism assists with firefighting forces from France, Germany, Spain, Cyprus, Romania, The Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and Slovakia, as well as from Serbia and Serbia via an agreement between the countries.

Additionally, the fires at Tsikraki Farsala have been contained, while the condition with the fire in Korona Kilkis is better.

Under partial control have been set the fires in Aspropoulia, Messinia and Geraki, Ilia.
