The Greek Ministry of National Defence denied a Turkish media report about the upcoming visit of the Turkish Minister of Defence Yaşar Güler to Athens.
As a ministry source told Proto Thema, "Regarding the reports in Turkish media about the visit of the Turkish Minister of Defense, Mr Yasar Güler, to Athens, it is pointed out that there has been no invitation."
What CNN Türk claimed
There was a report by CNN Türk, according to which Yasar Guler would visit Athens and meet with Nikos Dendias.
The meeting would take place after the visit of Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis to Ankara on September 5, where he will meet with his counterpart Hakan Fidan and before the meeting of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the UN Summit in New York.
Under the title "Autumn diplomacy between Ankara and Athens", CNN Türk wrote that after the steps to normalise relations between Ankara and Athens, meetings of the foreign and defence ministers and then of the two countries' leaders were planned in September.
The intensification of successive meetings and contacts is "the beginning of a new era" in Greek-Turkish relations.
