For the first time, the flag was raised in 2021 at the Municipality of Lake Plastiracelebrations for the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution.

The event, which included a musical program, was implemented by the Hellenic Aeronautical Club in collaboration with the OLYMPIC BALLOONS Aviation Company and the Municipality of Lake Plastira and was open to the public.

One of its goals is to produce audio-visual material to promote Lake Plastira as a mountain tourist destination, with unique possibilities such as hot air balloon flights.

Lake Plastiras, also called Tavropos Reservoir, is an artificial lake fed by the Tavropos (Megdovas) river in the Karditsa regional unit near the city of Karditsa, Greece. The lake is named after the Greek general and politician Nikolaos Plastiras, who was the first to visualise the construction of an artificial lake in the area.

The lake holds up to 400 million cubic meters of fresh water. It is used for irrigation and as a power source of a hydroelectric plant, but also as the primary water source to the city of Karditsa. Due to its altitude (one of the highest in Europe), the Tavropos Reservoir is a popular tourist resort in Greece, as the landscape is unique.
