A 35-year-old woman has been arrested in Ioannina for spreading false news by uploading a video about a supposed number of deceased individuals in Thessaly. The arrest took place on 10/09/2023 at 21:15 pm, during which the woman was handcuffed by the police.
According to the authorities, the woman was taken into custody on Sunday after she had shared a video on social media the previous night (09/09/23) claiming that there were multiple fatalities in an area of Thessaly due to the devastating storm named Daniel.
Following an investigation conducted by the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate, it was revealed that the 35-year-old had uploaded a video on her social media account falsely reporting a significant number of deaths in a Thessaly region, allegedly caused by the severe weather conditions attributed to storm Daniel. However, these claims were not confirmed by the official authorities.
The arrested woman will face charges, and the case will be presented to the Criminal Prosecutor of Ioannina.
