Police arrested four individuals on Sunday for looting homes that were devastated by storm Daniel in flood-stricken areas of Volos, Magnisia, and Trikala in Thessaly, Central Greece.
The thieves took advantage of the pain and suffering of the flood victims, attempting to steal household electric appliances. Two Greeks, aged 38 and 34, were apprehended in Volos after stealing a refrigerator and a stove that had been left outside to dry. The police responded to the call, arrested the criminals, and returned the recovered items to the owner.
Reports have emerged of suspicious movements by individuals with the intention of looting, prompting heightened patrols in Magnesia and Thessaly. The region has seen incidents of looting in abandoned flooded homes, with thieves pretending to offer assistance while stealing valuables.
Residents in several areas have already reported such incidents to the police.
