Athens-Thessaloniki national road still closed, rescue efforts continue

Fire brigade spokesperson Giannis Artopoios updated information on Wednesday on the road network in the flood-stricken area of Thessaly.

Artopoios mentioned that most roads in the three cities, Larissa, Karditsa, and Trikala, are functional, apart from the Trikala-Larissa axis.

“Efforts are currently made to open roads to Larissa,” he noted.

The Athens-Thessaloniki National Road remains blocked due to the recent flooding. The railway network is also facing problems.

So far, 4,592 rescue missions have been successfully completed.

Forces of the Fire Department, the Army, and volunteer organizations continue to operate with land and sea vehicles in the areas, giving out supplies, medicines, electricity generators, and other necessary materials.
