The Athens-Thessaloniki national highway has opened

For many days, the Athens-Thessaloniki highway remained closed at the height of Larissa. The floods and the tons of water that fell turned the plain of Larissa (mainly) and the surrounding areas into lakes.

The toll of Storm Daniel's devastating rains was dozens of dead, hundreds of destroyed houses, thousands of animals killed, and thousands of acres of farmland damaged.

For almost ten days, Greece was cut in two, and no driver could travel from south to north Greece, which could only be done by side roads or the Egnatia road.

No problem with transportation

On Saturday, the road was opened, and now the drivers of passenger vehicles can move without problems on the national road network. There are few places where the road becomes one lane, and drivers do not suffer as the waters have receded and do not cause problems.

It should be noted that the corresponding one in the Tempi tunnel (heading towards Thessaloniki) becomes a single lane, where the road surface (within it) has been damaged.

The death toll from storm 'Daniel', which swept through Thessaly, rose to 17 as, according to police sources, it was confirmed through DNA laboratory tests that the two bodies found last week belong to the Austrian couple, who had been missing since September 7, in Pelion.

The body of the woman was found in the sea area of Theotokos beach, south of Pelion, while the body of the man was found in the sea area of Myrtia, Pelion, by the Coast Guard.
