The evergreen performances and timeless songs of George Dalaras echoed on Wednesday night in the heart of Athens.

There, in the Field of Areos, in the historic summer Alsos Theatre, the singer, who wrote his own great musical history and raised generations with his songs, once again led his large audience on a musical journey full of excitement but also emotion.

Sometimes doing masterful performances of pieces from his rich discography, and sometimes as the leader of an improvised choir of people of all ages who softly sang with him, “I’m leaving your dreams and good luck wherever you go…” he gave to his audience a wonderful evening of music.

And when he started to play on his guitar the first notes of Apostolos Kaldara’s folk hymn “Whatever you are”, originally sung by the great Stelios Kazantzidis, nostalgia and emotion flooded the theatre.

He did not just sing old songs yesterday but “recommended” to his listeners two new ones, proving, for the umpteenth time, that no matter how many years pass, he will remain restless, creative, willing to create new melodic images that will accompany life us.
