The Saronic Islands of the Region of Attica have been awarded the Top Island Destination of Greece for 2023 in the prestigious international tourism institution World Travel Awards.
At the award ceremony held in Vatum, Georgia, the islands won 1st place in the international public vote among the other co-nominated islands (Cyclades, Dodecanese, Ionian Islands, Sporades).
This is a significant distinction, as the “World Travel Awards”, also known as the “Oscars” of tourism, is a long-standing and internationally renowned institution recognised worldwide as the ultimate acclamation of excellence in all key sectors of the tourism industry.
The Region’s Tourism Executive Directorate curated the nomination of the islands of the Saronic Gulf in cooperation with the Regional Development Fund of Attica, and their nomination as the top Greek island destination for 2023, by the public who participated in a vote was supported:
– The authenticity of the cultural character and the historicity of the islands,
– The variety of cultural events and festivals,
– The attractive natural environment, the magnificent coastlines and beaches, the variety of activities in nature and beyond, such as sailing-yachting, island-hopping, trekking, wellness, wedding and religious tourism, family holidays, a variety of sports activities and events for adults and children, etc.
– To delicious local gastronomy, based on traditional recipes and local products,
– To the quality services provided to visitors by tourism professionals at competitive prices,
– The unique Greek hospitality
– The ease of access and proximity to the major urban centres of Athens and Piraeus, make them ideal choices even for those who want to visit them
The Regional Governor Giorgos Patoulis expressed his satisfaction with the award.
