The Alpha Omega Council hosts the 2023 Honors Gala.
"Celebrating Visionaries and Trailblazers"
The Alpha Omega Council is very proud to announce George P. Sakellaris, the President, CEO, and chairman of the board of Ameresco, Inc., as its honoree for the 2023 Alpha Omega Council Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be presented by US Congressman John Sarbanes (MD) at its Honors Gala, Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the InterContinental Boston USA.
In his forty years in the energy efficiency industry, George has been a pioneer and an early advocate for renewable energy across the globe, playing a central role in the “green” energy movement. His passion is the driving force behind his success, but his love for his family and Greek heritage is the foundation for his sustained leadership and accomplishments.
The Alpha Omega Council are also proud to present additional awards to two very special honorees.
The 2023 Philhellene Award will be presented to the Honorable Carolyn B. Maloney, former US Representative from the State of New York from 1993 to 2023 and co-founder of the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues. Ms. Maloney represented a large Greek-speaking electorate and her avid support for Hellenic issues earned her the nickname of “Bouboulina” amongst her friends and constituents.
The 2023 Emerging Leader Award will be presented to Dr. Vanessa Farsadaki, a preeminent leader in Space Medicine, a medical doctor, and proud Greek American. She is the President and Managing Partner of Space Exploration Strategies LLC and is on-track to be Greece’s first-ever astronaut!
The Honors Gala is also an opportunity for us to recognize and celebrate young Greek American aspiring journalists with the Peter Agris Memorial Journalism Scholarship, given in memory of our late founder. Since its inception in 1976, the Alpha Omega Council has donated millions in scholarships and support to various Hellenic charities and philanthropic causes, the majority of which is generated by The Honors Gala, our primary fundraiser.
The Alpha Omega Council is looking forward to your presence to celebrate their visionaries and trailblazers.

The Alpha Omega Council is a dedicated organization with a primary mission of promoting Hellenism. Their guiding principles are outlined as follows:
1) Unite Americans of Hellenic heritage to foster loyalty and patriotism to the United States of America.
2) Cultivate and uphold the values and ideals of Hellenism.
3) Strive continually to maintain positive Greek-American relations.
4) Acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of individuals and groups who excel in their professions or fields.
5) Extend assistance to those in need, especially the less fortunate.
6) Establish, support, and contribute to religious, charitable, scientific, literary, and educational endeavors.
Founded in 1976 in Boston, Massachusetts, by the late Peter Agris, the publisher of "The Hellenic Chronicle," a widely read English-language weekly newspaper serving the Greek-American community in New England and beyond, the Alpha Omega Council comprises Americans of Hellenic descent from various fields such as Business, Education, Academia, Medicine, Law, Politics, Science, and more.
Its overarching mission remains unchanged: to promote and foster loyalty and patriotism to the United States of America, to uphold the core tenets of Hellenism, to continuously work towards enhancing Greek-American relations, to unite Americans of Greek heritage in fellowship and philanthropy, to celebrate excellence in all fields, to provide aid to those in need, and to establish, maintain, or support religious, charitable, scientific, literary, and educational initiatives.
Since its inception, the Alpha Omega Council has made significant contributions, exceeding $2,000,000, to various philanthropic causes, in addition to our annual Peter Agris Memorial Journalism Scholarship Awards.
