The consultation will cover the national offshore wind development programme, suggested areas for development through 2050, and environmental impact studies related to them.
Knowledgeable sources have said that the government and the Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (EDEYEP) have shortlisted several areas that could host wind farms without harming the environment or economic interests. The specific zones could accommodate between 12 GW and 15 GW of turbine capacity.
According to the insiders, the consultation sessions could be initiated this month.
In August 2022, Greece adopted its first offshore wind law as it unveiled plans to deploy at least 2 GW of offshore wind by the decade’s end. Earlier media reports stated that five areas have been selected with the capacity to become home to 2.1 GW of offshore turbines.
