Nick Kyrgios Drops Out of ATP Rankings for the First Time in His Career

Nick Kyrgios has fallen off the ATP rankings for the first time. The 28-year-old Australian earned his first ranking points 11 years ago when he made his ATP rankings debut on April 9, 2022. Following a career-best season in 2022 and a return to the top 20, Kyrgios faced unfortunate setbacks during the offseason, including a knee injury that required surgery.

After briefly returning to tennis in June and playing a single match in Stuttgart, Kyrgios suffered a wrist injury. Spending almost an entire calendar year on the sidelines, Kyrgios' name was removed from the rankings this Monday.

Last week, the ATP 500 event in Tokyo was held, but Kyrgios couldn't participate due to his ongoing wrist injury, resulting in the loss of his quarterfinal points from 2022 and his exit from the rankings this week.

Despite these challenges, Kyrgios has asked his fans for patience and had hoped to recover in time to compete at the US Open, avoiding missing all four Grand Slam events in 2023. His announcement of withdrawal from the US Open in August raised concerns among his devoted fanbase.

I'm still as motivated as ever in the gym, treatment, and recovery. Everything off-court is doing great. I am eyeing to come back and have a season like my last again," Kyrgios wrote on his Instagram Story after withdrawing from the US Open.

This month, Kyrgios provided the latest comeback update. “I am just trying to be able to get back as soon as possible because I do miss playing and especially being so close to winning [Wimbledon] last year. I know I’m right there," Kyrgios recently said on the Hotboxin' with Mike Tyson podcast
